Staff Sergeant welcomed home in LaPlace!
Army Staff Sergeant Juanika Cann, who served more than 20 years in the military, received a mortgage-free home courtesy of Building Homes for Heroes and Chase Bank on Friday, Dec. 2 in LaPlace, Louisiana.
Staff Sergeant Cann, an Iraq War veteran and single mother of four, endured many life-threatening and horrifying experiences throughout her two decades of service, including exposure to machine gun fire while serving overseas. She has suffered through many physical and psychological wounds, including spine and ankle injuries, and severe PTSD.
Building Homes for Heroes thanks Advance Auto Parts, GE Silicone II and York for their support to this home, as well as to many others. A large donation was also made to this home by the Brookshire's & Super 1 Foods Heroes Run, which selected Building Homes for Heroes as a beneficiary for its annual Heroes Run in Shreveport, Louisiana this October.
Dozens of supporters were on hand to welcome Staff Sergeant Cann and her new children into their new home, including Louisiana Lieutenant Governor William Nungesser.
This home is part of an extensive effort by Building Homes for Heroes to gift 11 mortgage-free homes in the months of November and December, to get military families in their homes in time for the holidays.
