450 attend “Operation Support our Military” golf/dinner event
On Veterans Day 2009, Building Homes for Heroes participated in the “Operation Support our Military” golf outing and dinner sponsored by the Siller family, Tunnel to Towers Run Foundation. Building Homes for Heroes was named as one the event’s recipients. Frank Siller proudly introduced William and Katherine Castillo as the first home recipient they intend to support. Over 400 played golf at four different Staten Island golf courses. The presence of the honorable Rudolph Guiliani was one of the highlights of the evening, as was the connection between Mr. Giuliani and home recipient SSG William Castillo. It was an honor spend an evening with FDNY Chief Salvatore Cassano, the entire Siller family, and so many patriots from the Staten Island community.
The “Home for a Hero” golf outing was held, in conjunction with the Windermere Country Club Foundation, on April 28, 2009 at the Windermere Country Club in Florida. The event raised over $23,000. The net proceeds will benefit Army Staff Sergeant William Castillo and family.
Building Homes for Heroes presented Army Corporal Christopher Levi with a check for $50,000 at a fundraiser held in the outdoor Biergarten at the Plattdeutsche Park Restaurant in Franklin Square, Long Island. The event was held to raise funds to support the costs associated with renovating Levi's home - an estimated $100,000 project - so that the home is handicap accessible upon his return. Including the pledge made by Building Homes for Heroes, the event, which was attended by more than 300 people, raised approximately $80,000. Renovations of the home are set to begin in August of 2008.
